Anticipation A photographer waits patiently in the cold for the sun to peak over the clouds on a perfect morning. A sunrise on Haleakala requires a lot of effort, but if the conditions are right, it is a memory you’ll never forget. The sun actually rises up out of the clouds below you. <br><br> Haleakala Crater is a dormant volcano located in Haleakala National Park. Haleakala is the highest point on Maui reaching over 10,000 feet. You can see the surrounding islands from atop this vantage point.

Echoes In Eternity Antelope Canyon is one of the more renowned slot canyons located in the canyonlands. These slot canyons are carved into the desert floor, sometimes no more than a mere foot in width you literally have to turn sideways and shimmy between walls in some places. Other areas of the canyons open up into large alcoves 60+ feet high. Looking like nothing more than a crack in the ground from above, the true beauty of these slots is witnessed from the canyon floor. If you are there during the right time of the year, and the right part of the day the walls literally glow as the light is reflected off the rocks in the canyons. Colors range from crimson reds, flaming orange and dark violet.

Forest Of Wonder Fall arrives in the San Juans. The aspen forests in the Mt. Sneffels wilderness turn magnificent shades of golden yellow and orange. White trunks stand in stark contrast to the brilliantly colored leaves that surround them. It’s an amazing sight; aspen forests as far as the eye can see create a colorful carpet that lines the base of snow capped peaks.

The Cauldron As with so many things in life, often the most rewarding experiences require getting off the beaten path and enduring hardship when it would be easier to sit in the Jeep. It was pouring rain, the sky was overcast, and it was an otherwise dreary day. We’d been shut out at sunrise, due to the inclement weather, nothing worth photographing had materialized. So we did what we usually do in those situations. Scout and shoot waterfalls. <br><br> The pouring rain added the perfect contrast to the wet rocks and made the golden aspen leaves pop out against the surrounding forest. The thick cloud cover and overcast sky allowed for a long enough exposure to blur the water as it crashed into the churning pool at the base of the cliff. And I came away with a photo I never would have gotten on a sunny day, or if I had gone the easy route and decided it was too much work to get out of the Jeep and go play in the rain.
