I spent this flight hanging out of a helicopter over the flow, working different compositions as the lava came down the mountain. Even hovering well above it, the heat was unbelievable. I'd always assumed lava moved slow and steady. In reality it moved nearly as fast as water, glowing white hot and consuming nearly everything in its path.
