The images I set out for are rarely the ones I come home with. This is where the rest of it goes: the route, the weather, the night it did not work, and the morning it did.

Two and a half rough days at sea from the Falklands to South Georgia. Then the icebergs, the mountains, and the penguins.

My first photo workshop, Banff, fall 2006. By the first night I was standing on a bank by the highway, deciding photography wasn't for me.

People ask how I get a picture underwater. I show them a photo of the rig, and then the questions start.

People ask what I’m after out there. I’m looking for something better than a postcard.

In 2023 I left the job, chased Firefall and humpbacks, lost two people who mattered more than the work ever did, and took my dad to Antarctica. Two years later the journal is the first step. And so, the pursuit begins.

Photography, for me, has always been about what’s around the next corner, over the next horizon, or what the conditions might bring tomorrow.

Before any of the trips that look like the work now, there was a gallery in Ely I couldn't stay out of. That's where it began.
Notes are filed under the same rooms as the prints: High Country, Lowlands, Dryfall, Landfall, The Fathoms, Polar. A story and a picture can find each other.
