This was the first day of the trip, and one of the few with bright sun. The orcas were working the herring run, spinning up bait balls all around us, and I spent an hour in the water while they strafed past. This bull passed within inches of me, finishing a herring he'd just caught and looking right at me while he did it. He was about fifteen feet long, roughly the size of a small school bus, and completely unbothered by me.
