We were in and out of the zodiac over a dozen times that day, pods everywhere and none of them interested in us, and I'd about written it off. Then I guessed one right, swam ahead of where I thought they'd come through, and dove down about fifteen feet. A mother and two calves came over to look at me, the smallest tucked up under her belly, and they let me swim alongside for a few seconds before they were gone into the dark.
