We'd driven over from Death Valley looking for weather and we got it. Cold, snow, wind, and two days of sunrises and sunsets that never arrived. We hadn't packed for mountains, so we couldn't get far on foot. On the last morning the storm cleared, I had the rock and the peaks lined up, and then the color came up behind me over the wrong mountains. I'd been looking at gray water for three days. That morning it was every color of an Easter egg.
