We started up the Narrows just after sunrise and came back down the same water that afternoon. I'd walked past this spot in the morning and saw nothing worth stopping for. By the time we came back through, the sun had climbed far enough to bounce off the upper walls, and lit up the canyon like a cathedral of light. The boulder is actually huge, about fifteen feet tall, though nothing in the frame tells you that. The canyon has been cutting itself deeper for thousands of years, and that rock has not moved.
